I received an interesting email from a lady whose father served as an USAF Officer at Fairford R.A.F. Station. They lived at "The Cottage at Sherborne," which she also describes as the dowager's residence. She lived there between 1954 - 1957. She now lives in Tennessee, USA. Her name is Barbara. I would be interested to hear of anyone knew of her, though she schooled in Cheltenham at that time. Although as she states 'not one of the Old Boys,' living across the road from the school fixes her association in space and time with King's School.

During Nick Sweet's time at King's he was to be confirmed in the adjacent church - however a rift between JHM and the temporary Vicar put a stop to that. In Nick's words, "both parties were immovable objects." Although the Vicar's letter was marked Private and Confidential, since over 46 years have past I am publishing it in its entirety. The response of JHM is also presented. Both can be found in the section School Documents 7. The dates being march and June 1959 respectively.
Nick has also uncovered an Insurance scheme to cover parents for loss of fees should their child be unable to attend school due to illness. This can also be found on the School Documents 7 page.

When none of us have any use for the material - that is when we are all too old to care - I have the interest of the
Senior Cataloguer at Gloucestershire Council's Record Office who will preserve the film for posterity (currently in the care of Nigel Dodds' son in a cold storage film facility in London).
Quote: "... life at the school 1948-67 - it sounds fascinating and just the sort of material we would be happy to preserve here. We have a dedicated cold strongroom for photographic media where we would store the original 16mm film. If you had spares of the videotape copies, these would be useful as we could make them available in our search room. We would also be pleased to receive other records - if any exist - about the school."
I replied and she also: " I look forward to hearing from you when you are ready to arrange their transfer here incidentally, records can be deposited on long term loan or donated - in the former case, they remain the property of the owner."
I would be grateful for any suggestions you may have.

For those of you interested in the Dutton family, she adds that "The Sherborne catalogue (D678) can be found from the Record Office homepage Click on Links: Record Office Online Catalogue
then click on 'Search Catalogue' if you type 'Sherborne House' in the AnyText field that should bring up 17 specific entries within the Sherborne
Estate Archive clicking on the blue underlined number on the left takes you to the full description of that particular record. Advice on
searching the catalogue is on the first page 'How to use this database.'"

This was done when finding appropriate siting for dozens of scans of documents and pictures loaned to me by Jim Knight! Though he
has only a small page of Personal Photos, he provided
Newspaper Cuttings not seen before (by me), Sports Programmes and Results - under
Documents, and a number of years Programmes from School Plays - together with a few really nice pictures of Twelfth Night.
Again under Documents - not to be missed are an Application form to attend King's School, an Invoice for Term Fees, and a fascinating little book - published in it's entirety - a record of Community Points, suggesting that work is a commodity that earns points - towards the back of the book however we discover a record of money lending and illicit alcohol consumption!

I have had a very interesting letter from a relative of Ian Kjaer (kjær) who attended King's in 1951-52. Unfortunately he does not have direct internet access but has asked if anyone remembers him. In 1951 he was 17 (born 1934, July 9th) and came from Denmark. He comes from a tobacco family and himself worked for the Scandinavian Tobacco Company until he retired a few years ago. He now lives in Jutland.
